Losing hair is common not only to men but women as well. It happens to almost everyone at one point in their lives. One of my friends back in the states told me about a way to re-grow hair she had lost from an improper diet she was on . She swears that garlic did the trick!
I have never heard of garlic being a natural cure of hair loss, but I am a huge believer that in nature we can find cures for everything! So I decided to look into it. We all know the importance of garlic in our diets, so how does it work for the hair loss? Check out a snippet about the importance of garlic from an online article that I stumbled.
"Garlic contains a lot of nutritional components beneficial to hair, including sulfur. Sulfur is a structural component of a lot of proteins, such as keratin, the protein our hair is made of. Garlic can provide vitamin C, B-6, and B-1(thiamine) in good amounts. These vitamins are important for maintaining healthy hair. Vitamin C protects hair from breakage and also helps increase collagen. Absence of vitamin B-6 can result in hair loss, and thiamine helps in scalp circulation as well as carbohydrate metabolism."
"According to a study published in the Indian Journal of Dermatology, Venerology and Leprology’s January 2007 edition, garlic can help in fighting hair loss. The study was about how effective garlic gel is in boosting topical betamethasone valerate for treating alopecia areata, a recurrent and non-scarring type of hair loss. The study found that the addition of garlic considerably improved the treatment. Perhaps this is the reason for the popularity of topical garlic solutions among folk remedies, some of which include slicing open a garlic clove and rubbing it on hairless spots. The remedy also involves an olive oil massage after an hour, and leaving the treatment on overnight."
What You'll Need:
1 Garlic Clove
Olive Oil (optional)
Cut the garlic clove in half and rub it on the affected area. Rub the area for a period of one minute. Remember to be gentle and not to aggrevate the scalp. Also be sure to keep it away from your eyes. Leave it on for a period of 30 mins. Rinse your hair as usual. Repeat every day until the hair grows back.
You can also add olive oil to your hair to make it easier for you to rub the garlic on your scalp. It is also great for your hair but it is optional in this home remedy.
Would you give this a go? Let me know. And if you've tried this already, tell me your results!
