It is all up to the individual and the look that you are going for. Many actresses, models, and singers tend to wear contacts to keep their look fresh, up-to-date, and in trend. Stars like Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, and Haifa Wehbe all embraced different colored contacts and wear them everywhere they go.

Colored contacts are also a major factor in theater makeup. Sometimes actors and actresses are required to wear scary contacts to portray evil villains in movies or television shows. It's a part of the whole "costume" or look to make the character more convincing. They are also used in some photo-shoot to get very creative shots that stand out.
